Research scientist, neurobotics
The scientist will work on training spiking neural networks for robotic control,
in the framework of a larger project. Tasks include developing learning mechanisms,
simulating neural networks and
analyzing them, running robotic experiments.
Requirements include:
- Basic knowledge of neural networks, neuroscience, learning methods in artificial
intelligence, or willingness to learn about them;
- Good analytical / mathematical / modeling skills;
- The ability to program in C++, experience in writing and maintaining complex
software;
- A good command of English;
A PhD or MS in AI, robotics, theoretical neuroscience of physics, or some
other research experience are preferred, but not required. The candidate may
be a student in one of the universities of Cluj.

Team leaders
Coneural welcomes experienced scientists that would like to start
building a new lab or to move their research group to Romania. The team leaders
are expected to secure independently their funding, from sources that may include
the following programmes:
- Programmes funded by the Romanian government:
- Return grants - complex
projects: programme that grants up to 7M lei (~2M euros) for 3 years,
for confirmed scientists with research experience abroad;
- Return grants:
programme that grants up to 510K lei (~145K euros) for 2 years, for
young scientists with PhD or postdoctoral studies abroad;
- Ideas programme: grants
up to 7M lei (~2M euros) for 3 years for research groups;
- Partnerships
programme: grants up to 2M lei (~570K euros) for 3 years for applied
research performed in partnership with other Romanian institutions.
Through projects funded through these programmes, the team leader can earn
a gross salary of up to 4300 euros per month (corresponding to a net salary
of ~3000 euros).
